Subject: Offensive National Organization for Marriage ads
Link to a_respite's journal entry on the subject: Letter to FFN from respitechristopher. He got the brunt of NOM's ads on fanfiction.net, in the NY/NJ area. I'm sending this letter to the admins of the site to let them know where I stand on this matter.

(if you post on fanfiction.net and feel compelled to reply to this, by all means, do so! Boycott or respond. I feel this is abhorrent, and really, these ads don't have any place on a site like that.)

It has come to my attention that several ads for the National Organization for Marriage have appeared on your website, at least on a regional level. For me, as a supporter of equal rights among all U.S. citizens, allowing NOM to have a platform on which to spread its views promoting hate and inequality against same-sex relationships is wrong and abhorrent. There are a number of GLBT writers on this site, as well as writers, like myself, who read and write slash fanfiction in various fandoms; I can imagine I'm not alone in feeling like this.

I ask you to remedy this situation. Until you do, I cannot use the service/site you provide. Thank you.

Thanks for pointing it out. I wouldn't have known about the ads popping up in your area if you hadn't told us about it.

And fuck the NY legislature. Fuck 'em!

I honestly am only on there to post my slashfic and in the SU forum... I haven't updated my Star Trek or HP stuff in ages....

I'm posting this letter in my profile too. Just to make sure people who click on it know about it.

And Christopher was the one who brought it to my attention. They're popping up all over his FFN page, possibly because of the NY/NJ state campaigns.

Thanks, Cuba!

Love your email and I couldn't agree with you more.

Thanks! If these ads pop up on any more sites, I'm sending out this same letter to those admins. The whole thing is ridiculous.

Mostly, right now, I'm glad I live in a place like MA--where adults can get married to whom they love. MA has their faults... but at least equal rights for marriage ain't one of them!

I agree with you 100%!
